Sunday afternoon, August 28th, was spent reflecting, reading, and knitting...my humble way of honoring the memory of an incredible woman. I perused my collection of books on her art and her gardening, and I reflected, while knitting the lace edging to a cottage shawl which will be a gift honoring the birthday of a sister-in-law.
This woman, who has brought so many of us together,
who has inspired us to follow our dreams of making our homes into havens, retreats from the rush of the world,
who demonstrated such passion for everyday tasks, making them extraordinary,
and who was never too old to play....
deserves a bow...a tribute ...
This evening, I baked her beloved Washington Pie... set it on a pretty lustreware plate, alongside the type of tea pot and tea cup she would have used, next to a treasured yellow ware bowl... that spent 30 years in her Vermont home, atop a 19th century tablecloth... the very kind she kept atop her table.

Preparing this cake,
presenting this display,
taking the photograph to capture this week that I have pondered the impact of her life,
I am humbled and reminded to make the most of each day...
live life to its fullest...
embrace the ones I love ...
cast off the worries of the world.

So, dear friends,
Take Peace,
Take Joy,
Be Blessed.
